INSIDE THE UFFIZI

Die Schatzkammern von Florenz

Anyone who visits Florence must have been to the Uffizi Gallery. 2.2 million people a year flood through the rooms, sweating, breathing and coughing. In autumn 2015, Freiburg art historian Eike Schmidt became the first non-Italian to be appointed director of the Uffizi in Florence. Schmidt was well received in Florentine society with his somewhat stiff politeness. His eloquent charm, his technical knowledge and his ability to legally tap into lavish sources of money earned him respect.
In an entertaining way, the film follows the "Schmidt era" in the first 12 months after he took office, always close to the side of the German director. Because the Uffizi's biggest problem is the Uffizi itself.
The film traces the purpose and origins of the building in the 16th century in opulent re-enactments. Only through this look into Florence’s history is it possible to get how Florence was able to become the centre of the Renaissance.
