MYTH OF THE WHALE

100 Years of Change

Whales are the kings and queens of the oceans, they live in social groups and breathe like humans. Whales were once considered monsters and were hunted by humans without hesitation - almost to the point of extinction. Today they are admired.
How did the relationship between humans and whales change so much?
The epoch-making 90-minutes documentary by Peter Moers and Leighton DeBarros follows the Australian whale rescuer Doug Coughran. Doug is the highly awarded pioneer of whale rescue. He was the first to risk his life to liberate the giant marine mammals entangled in drifting debris like fishing gear nets and ropes. Doug was deathly ill when he agreed to do the shooting and died during post-production. This film is dedicated to Doug.
