TEAM LIONESS
KENYA'S FIRST FEMALE RANGERS
Leah and Purity are rangers who walk 25 kilometers every day through the Kenyan bush to track wildlife. Their area of operation is around Amboseli National Park, where Maasai herders also have their villages. This region often sees conflicts between humans and wildlife. The young women are called upon to mediate these situations or provide comfort to those affected. Yet, life is not easy for these two Maasai women—they face discrimination as they challenge a cultural norm where only men take on paid work. This is a story of two women working to foster coexistence between humans and wildlife while fighting for their own independence.
