THE LOTOS OF THE INLE LAKE, MYANMAR

In the North-east of Myanmar only the tribe of the Intha, the "people of the Lake", has the ability to produce the most expensive material in the world, the Lotus silk, out of the fibers of the water plant Lotus. For one yard of fabric 10,000 stems and one week working time are needed. It is the texture of Buddha, out of that plant that is dedicated to him. The film shows the weavers and their families who produce a material which they are not even allowed to wear themselves.
